2026 Massachusetts House History Talks

Want to learn the true story of your house—who lived there, when it was built, and how it changed over time?

2026 schedule of house history talks across Massachusetts by Marian Pierre-Louis, the Northeast House Historian

In 2026, I’ll be presenting house history talks across Massachusetts at libraries and community organizations statewide. These programs are practical and beginner-friendly. You’ll leave knowing exactly where to start, which records to look for, and how to build a clear timeline for your home.

Tip: Bring your address (and approximate build year, if you know it). If you have specific questions, bring those too.

I’ve presented 100+ house history programs—and this Massachusetts tour is designed to help you start immediately.

What you’ll learn

In this talk, I’ll walk you through a step-by-step approach to researching house history, including:

  • How to locate deeds and build a chain of title
  • How to use maps, directories, and tax records to date changes
  • How to identify past owners and occupants (and what to do when names don’t match addresses)
  • Where to find the best local resources for your town
  • Common “gotchas” that slow people down—and how to avoid them
