Visiting the c. 1775 Bourne Farm
Take a virtual photo walk with me through the historic Bourne Farm in North Falmouth, Massachusetts on Cape Cod.
Last week I gave a house history presentation at the West Falmouth (MA) Public Library – “10 Steps to Researching the History of Your House in Falmouth”. The co-sponsor of the event was the Salt Pond Areas Bird Sanctuaries, Inc. “A bird sanctuary?” you might ask. Well, it turns out that the bird sanctuary is also a preservation organization. They are home to the historic c. 1775 Bourne Farm.

Though no longer a working farm, the Bourne Farm still sits on over 50 acres. Much of the property is made up of a wooded trail system with some fields and wildflower gardens. The over all effect is idylic Cape Cod scenery with an historic shingle house, lush greenery and stonewalls.
The farmhouse is not typically open to the public but you are free to view the exterior and to enjoy the trails and property. You can even bring your along dog.

Curiosity got the better of me so I stopped by the farm before my presentation. I toured the property, enjoyed the wildflower garden and went on a hike along the Herring Run Trail. Part of the property runs along the Shining Sea Bikeway, a 10 mile bike trail running 10 miles through Falmouth.

As a bonus event to accompany the house history presentation, the sanctuary organized a special open house. After the talk, the public was invited to tour the inside of the farmhouse.
Below please enjoy some more photos from that day. If you get a chance, stop by and visit the Bourne Farm. It is located 6 North Falmouth Hwy., North Falmouth, MA 02556.
